MESSIAH:
More
Than
Just The King
More About Our Savior Jesus Christ …
Unraveling more of the Biblical “mystery” of Jesus Christ is probably the most important adventure we can ever take. Yet, it is one of the most avoided subjects in the world today.
As we study the Scriptures, we find the Messiah of Israel (Jesus Christ) is revealed to Mankind through many titles. These will unlock the mystery telling us exactly who He is.
Here, we will examine several of His many titles, which will help us discover the answer to this most critical and essential question, “WHY can I trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior?”
So, what else does the Bible reveal to us about the Messiah?
Messiah (Christ) is Eternal, “From Everlasting” …
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are little
among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you
shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth
have been from of old,
from EVERLASTING.” (Eternal!)
(Micah 5:2)
We are told only GOD is “from Everlasting”…
“Blessed be the LORD God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting!
Amen and Amen.”
(Psalm 41:13)
“Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the Earth and the World,
Even from everlasting to everlasting,
You are God.”
(Psalm 90:2)
“Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!”
(1 Chronicles 16:36)
Christ (Messiah) is “The Rock” …
“For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God,
(Psalm 18:31)
“There is no one holy like the Lord,
Indeed, there is no one besides You,
Nor is there any rock like our God.”
(1 Samuel 2:2)
“And he said:
“The Lord is my Rock
and my fortress
and my deliverer”
(2 Samuel 22:2)
“Of the Rock who begot you,
you are unmindful,
and have forgotten the God who fathered you.
(Deuteronomy 32:18)
The Lord lives!
Blessed be my Rock!
Let God be exalted,
THE Rock of my Salvation!”
(2 Samuel 22:47)
“The Lord is my Rock
and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength,
in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn (power) of my Salvation,
my stronghold.”
(Psalm 18:2)
“The Lord lives!
Blessed be my Rock!
Let the God of my salvation be exalted.”
(Psalm 18:46)
“He (God) only is my Rock
and my Salvation (Savior);
He is my defense.”
(Psalm 62:2)
“For You (God) are my Rock
and my fortress;
Therefore, for Your Name’s sake,
Lead me and guide me.”
(Psalm 31:3)
There are probably more “Rock” verses than necessary listed here (and many more from the Bible could have been listed), but, the point is the Bible says clearly that only God (Messiah) is the “Rock”… and there can be no other.
It would be IMPOSSIBLE for Peter to be “The Rock”…
“He (Jesus) said to them,
“But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said,
“You (Jesus) are the Christ (Messiah),
the Son of the living God.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,
for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you,
but My Father who is in Heaven.
“And I also say to you
that you are Peter, (Peter means ‘piece of rock’ in Greek)
and on this Rock (Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God)
I will build My Church,
and the gates of Hades
shall not prevail against it …
Then He commanded His Disciples
that they should tell no one
that He was Jesus the Christ (Messiah).”
(Matthew 16:13-18, 20)
“Therefore,
whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man
who built his house on the Rock: (Jesus Christ … The Word of God)
And the rain descended, the floods came,
and the winds blew and beat on that house;
and it did not fall,
for it was founded on the Rock.”
(Matthew 7:24-25)
Christ (Messiah) is the “I Am” of the Burning Bush …
“Then Moses said to God,
“Indeed, when I come to
the children of Israel and say to them,
‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’
and they say to me,
‘What is His Name?’
What shall I say to them?”
And God said to Moses,
“I AM WHO I AM.”
And He said,
“Thus you shall say to the children of Israel,
‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
(Exodus 3:13-14)
“Now see that I,
even I Am He,
And there is no God besides Me;
(Deuteronomy 32:39)
“Who has performed and done it,
calling the generations from the beginning?
‘I, the LORD, am the first;
And with the last I Am He.’”
(Isaiah 41:4)
“You are My witnesses,” says the LORD,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe Me,
And understand
that I Am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.”
(Isaiah 43:10)
“Therefore My people shall know My Name;
Therefore they shall know in that Day that
I Am He who speaks:
‘Behold, it is I.’”
(Isaiah 52:6)
And now Jesus Christ reveals …
“Then the Jews said to Him,
“You are not yet fifty years old,
and have You seen Abraham?”
Jesus said to them,
“Most assuredly, I say to you,
before Abraham was, I AM.”
(He tells them He is the “I Am” of the burning bush)
Then they took up stones to throw at Him;
(John 8:57-59) (The Jews knew what He was saying)
“And He (Jesus) said:
“Take heed that you not be deceived.
For many will come in My name,
saying, ‘I Am He,’
and, ‘The time has drawn near.’
Therefore do not go after them.
(Luke 21:8)
“For if you do NOT believe
that I Am He,
you will die in your sins.” (The second death … Hell.)
(John 8:24) (We either die “In Christ” or “In our sins”)
“I Am He who lives, and was dead,
and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.
And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”
(Revelation 1:18)
The Power of the “I Am”…
“Then Judas,
having received a detachment of troops and officers
from the chief priests and Pharisees,
came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
Jesus therefore, knowing all things
that would come upon Him,
went forward and said to them,
“Whom are you seeking?”
They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Jesus said to them,
“I Am He.”
And Judas, who betrayed Him,
also stood with them.
Now when He (Jesus) said to them, “I Am He,”
the large armed crowd drew back
and ALL FELL to the ground.”
(John 18:3-7) (also see Matthew 26:47)
Christ (Messiah) is “The Son of Man”…
“For the Son of Man
will come in the glory
of His Father with His angels,
and then He will reward each
according to his works.
(Matthew 16:27)
“Assuredly, I say to you,
there are some standing here
who shall not taste death
till they see the Son of Man
coming in His Kingdom.”
(Matthew 16:28)
“Now as they came down from the mountain,
Jesus commanded them, saying,
“Tell the vision to no one
until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”
(Matthew 17:9)
“But I say to you that Elijah has come already,
and they did not know him
but did to him whatever they wished.
Likewise the Son of Man
is also about to suffer at their hands.”
(Matthew 17:12)
“Now while they were staying in Galilee,
Jesus said to them,
“The Son of Man is about to be betrayed
into the hands of men”
(Matthew 17:22)
“For the Son of Man
has come to save
that which was lost.”
(Matthew 18:11)
“So Jesus said to them,
“Assuredly I say to you,
that in the regeneration,
when the Son of Man
sits on the throne of His glory,
you who have followed Me
will also sit on twelve thrones,
judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
(Matthew 19:28)
“Behold,
we are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be betrayed
to the chief priests and to the scribes;
and they will condemn Him to death”
(Matthew 20:18)
“Just as the Son of Man
did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give His life
a ransom for many.”
(Matthew 20:28)
“For as the lightning comes from the east
and flashes to the west,
so also will the coming
of the Son of Man be.”
(Matthew 24:27)
Whenever Jesus used His Title of the “Son of Man” He was pointing to Daniel 7, where the prophet describes the awesome power and majesty of the ‘Son of Man’ in Heaven …
“I (Daniel) was watching in the night visions,
And behold,
One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of Heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him (the Son of Man)
was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And HIS Kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.”
(Daniel 7:13-14)
In the opening chapter of the book of Revelation, the Apostle John also describes Jesus Christ as “the Son of Man” and gives us an awesome description of Him …
“I, (John) was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day,
and I heard behind me a loud voice,
as of a trumpet, saying,
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,” and,
“What you see, write in a book and
send it to the seven churches which are in Asia:
To Ephesus, to Smyrna,
to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis,
to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
Then, I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.
And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
and in the midst of the seven lampstands
One like the Son of Man,
clothed with a garment down to the feet
and girded about the chest with a golden band.
His head and hair were white like wool,
as white as snow,
and His eyes like a flame of fire;
His feet were like fine brass,
as if refined in a furnace,
and His voice as the sound of many waters;
He had in His right hand seven stars,
out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword,
and His countenance was like the Sun
shining in its strength.
And when I saw Him,
I fell at His feet as dead.
But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,
“Do not be afraid;
I am the First and the Last.
I am He who lives, and was dead,
and behold,
I Am alive forevermore.
Amen.”
(Revelation 1:10-18)
“The Son of Man
will send out His angels,
and they will gather out of His Kingdom
ALL things that offend,
and those who practice lawlessness (against God’s Law),
and will cast them into the furnace of fire.
There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
(Matthew 13:41-42)
Christ (Messiah) is “The WORD of God” …
“In the Beginning was the Word
and the Word was WITH God,
and the Word WAS God.
And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten
of the Father …
full of grace and truth.
He was in the world,
the World was made through Him,
and the World did not know Him.
He came to His own,
and His own did not receive Him”
(Excerpted from John 1:1-14)
“Now I saw Heaven opened,
and behold, a white horse.
And He who sat on him
was called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness
He judges and makes war.
His eyes were like a flame of fire,
and on His head were many crowns.
He had a Name written
that no one knew except Himself.
He was clothed with a robe
dipped in blood, and
His Name is called
The Word of God.
And the armies in Heaven,
clothed in fine linen, white and clean,
followed Him on white horses.”
(Revelation 19:11-14)
We are told God magnifies His Word ABOVE His Holy Name …
“I will worship toward Your Holy Temple,
And praise Your Name
For Your loving kindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified
Your Word ABOVE all Your Name.”
(Psalm 138:2) (Jehovah’s Witnesses ignore this verse)
Jesus as ‘the Word of God’ helps to add perspective …
“Also I say to you,
whoever confesses Me (Jesus Christ) before men,
him the Son of Man
also will confess before the angels of God.
But he who denies Me (the Word of God) before men
will be denied before the angels of God.”
(Luke 12:8-9) (Be careful not to deny or reject any verses)
“For what profit is it to a man
if he gains the whole world,
and is himself (his soul) destroyed or lost?
For whoever is ashamed of Me (the Word of God)
and My words (as found in the Bible),
of him the Son of Man
will be ashamed” (on the day of Judgment)
(Luke 9:25-26)
(Don’t be ashamed of God’s Word on any topic)
“So it will be at the End of the Age.
The angels will come forth,
separate the wicked from among the just,
and cast them into the furnace of fire.
There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
(Matthew 13:49-50)
Christ (Messiah) is the “Son of God” …
God first ‘publicly’ introduced His Son to Mankind around 1000 BC (in a Psalm from King David) …
“I (God) have set MY King
on My Holy Hill of Zion. (Jerusalem)
I (God) will declare the Decree:
The LORD (GOD)
has said to Me (Messiah),
You are MY SON
this day
I (God) have begotten You.
Ask of Me,
and I will give You
the nations (Gentiles)
for Your inheritance,
and the ends of the Earth
for Your possession …”
(Psalm 2:6-7)
“Kiss the Son (of God)
lest He be angry,
and you perish in the Way,
when His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those
who trust in Him.”
(Psalm 2:12)
And from the wisdom of Proverbs …
“Who has established
all the ends of the Earth?
What is HIS Name,
and what is His SON’S Name,
if you know?
(Jesus Christ … Yeshua Ha’Mashiach in Hebrew)
(Proverbs 30:4)
The “Son of God” and “the Father” are ONE …
“Jesus said to him,
“Have I been with you so long,
and yet you have not known Me, Philip?
He who has seen Me
HAS seen the Father;
so how can you say,
‘Show us the Father’?
(John 14:9)
Jesus then tells us clearly …
“I and the Father are One.”
(John 10:30)
Jesus Christ IS God …
“Behold,
the virgin shall conceive
and bear a Son,
and shall call His name Immanuel”
(Immanuel literally means “God with us”)
(Isaiah 7:14)
He would be God manifested in the flesh …
“For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
and His Name will be called
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.”
(Isaiah 9:6)
“Then He said to Thomas,
“Put your finger here, and see My hands;
And put out your hand, and place it in My side.
Do not disbelieve, but believe.”
Thomas answered him,
“My Lord and my God!”
(John 20:27-28)
“Jesus said to him,
“Thomas, because you have seen Me,
you have believed.
Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have believed.” (That’s us.)
(John 20:29)
Christ (Messiah) is “Creator” of all things …
“All things were made through Him (Jesus Christ),
and without Him nothing was made
that was made.”
(John 1:3)
“He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn (head) over all Creation.
For by Him ALL things were Created
that are in Heaven and that are on Earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or principalities or powers. (These are ranks of angels)
All things were created through Him and for Him.”
(Colossians 1:16)
And once again …
“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. “
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him (Jesus Christ),
and without Him nothing was made
that was made.”
(John 1:1-3)
Christ (Messiah) is the Sacrificial “Lamb” of God …
“The next day he (John the Baptist)
saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!”
(John 1:29)
“He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep
before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.”
(Isaiah 53:7)
“And I looked, and behold,
in the midst of the Throne (in Heaven)
and of the four living creatures,
and in the midst of the elders,
stood a Lamb as though it had been slain,
having seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven Spirits of God
sent out into all the Earth.
Then He (the Lamb)
came and took the scroll
out of the right hand of Him
who sat on the throne.”
(Revelation 5:6-7)
“Now when He had taken the Scroll,
the four living creatures
and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb,
each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense,
which are the prayers of the saints.
And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You (the Lamb of God) were slain,
And have redeemed us to God
by Your blood (Redeemed means He paid our ransom)
Out of every tribe and tongue
and people and nation,
And have made us kings
and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the Earth.”
(Revelation 5:8-10)
“Then I looked,
and I heard the voice
of many angels around the throne,
the living creatures, and the elders;
and the number of them was
ten thousand times ten thousand,
and thousands of thousands,
(millions upon millions of faithful believers)
saying with a loud voice:
‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
to receive power and riches
and wisdom, and strength
and honor and glory
and blessing!’”
(Revelation 5:11-12)
Christ (Messiah) is The “Savior”
In Hebrew the Name Jesus (Yeshua) means “Savior”
“And she (Mary) will bear a Son,
and you shall call His name Jesus (Yeshua),
for He will save His people from their sins.”
(Matthew 1:21)
“Looking for the blessed hope
and glorious appearing of our great
God and Savior Jesus Christ”
(Titus 2:13)
“But has now been revealed
by the appearing
of our Savior Jesus Christ”
(Timothy 1:10) ()
“But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
(2 Peter 3:18)
“This is a faithful saying
and worthy of all acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the World
to SAVE sinners”
(1 Timothy 1:5)
“If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned,
we make Him a liar,
and His Word is not in us.”
(1 John 1:9)
“Nor is there salvation in any other,
For there is no other name under Heaven given among men
by which we MUST be saved (from our sins and from Hell).”
(Acts:4:12)
“Savior” means the Christ (Messiah) stepped forth from Heaven to SAVE people from all their sins and from Hell …
We are told if we repent (which simply means to turn back to God and HIS way which is good), and believe Jesus Christ lovingly suffered and died on the Cross as payment for all of our sins, and that He was buried, and then powerfully raised from the dead, we will then die “in Christ” through His perfect righteousness and will be “saved” into His wonderful Kingdom of Heaven.
If not, we are told we will die “In our sins,” (John 8:24) and will then face the eternal darkness, aloneness, and torment of Hell for rejecting and refusing God’s free and loving Gift of everlasting life in Heaven freely offered in and through our faith, trust, and love in Christ Jesus.
We are saved into Heaven by our Faith
in Jesus Christ (the Word of God) …
“By faith we understand
that the Universe was created
by the Word of God,
so that what is seen
was not made out of things
that are visible.” (Atoms are no surprise to Christians)
(Hebrews 11:3) (‘Evolution’ denies the Word of God)
“For by God’s GRACE
you have been saved (into Heaven)
through FAITH (in Jesus Christ).
And this is not your own doing;
it is the gift of God, (You can’t earn or buy this ‘gift’)
NOT of works,
lest anyone should boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9) (Faith saves us … works add rewards)
A loving Warning …
“Little children, it is the last hour;
and as you have heard
that the Antichrist is coming,
even now many antichrists have come,
by which we know that it is the last hour.”
“Who is a liar but he who denies
that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah)?
He is antichrist who denies
the Father and the Son.
Whoever denies the Son (Islam denies Jesus is the Son)
does not have the Father either;
he who acknowledges the Son
has the Father also.”
(1 John 3:18,22-23) (No Son = No Father = No Hope in Heaven)
God’s Love …
“For God so loved the world
that He GAVE His only begotten Son,
that whoever BELIEVES in Him
should NOT perish (in Hell)
but have everlasting life (in Heaven).
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved (into Heaven).
He who believes in Him is NOT condemned (to Hell);
but he who does NOT believe
IS condemned (to Hell) ALREADY”
(John 3:16-18) (There is no second chance for any who reject or despise God’s Gift)
We believe the generation alive today will one day have to choose between a coming world leader who will be considered a man of peace and will falsely claim to be the Messiah (and through Satan he will perform miracles), or Jesus Christ of Nazareth who suffered and died on the Cross for us through God’s perfect love, and will one day return in great power and glory to remove this false shepherd who is to come (the Antichrist), and Jesus Christ will then restore all things in perfect peace and beauty.
Christ (Messiah) is the true “Shepherd” …
“The Lord is my Shepherd …”
(Psalm 23:1)
And Jesus Christ graciously tells us,
“I AM the good Shepherd.
The good Shepherd gives his life
for the sheep.”
(John 10:11)
God has given all Mankind a free will to make their own decisions and to chose whatever they wish to believe and to choose whomever they wish to serve …
“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord,
choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”
(Joshua 24:15)
There Will Be NO Second Chance . . .
We are warned there is no second chance (or a “purgatory”) for any who reject, despise, ignore, or even for those who just procrastinate in receiving God’s Gift of life in Heaven offered freely through love and faith in Jesus Christ.
Also, we believe the generation alive today will one day have to choose between a coming world leader (The “Antichrist,” a “man of peace” who will falsely claim to be the Messiah), or Jesus Christ our Savior, who lovingly suffered and died on the Cross for us.
However, we are told many will wait to receive Jesus as their Lord until after the coming Antichrist is revealed (when he enforces a Peace Treaty, or “Covenant,” upon nation Israel).
The Bible warns these will miss the Rapture (our escape) and will then be helplessly drawn into the terrors of the Great Tribulation (the coming Apocalypse) and will have their faith sorely tested with imprisonment and with death in order to be saved into the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.
The Bible also warns most church pews will still be occupied after the Rapture of the body of Bible-believing Christians (who will be called trouble-makers for quoting Bible verses).
Grace and Shalom
